Putin reeling as devastating explosion rips through Moscow destroying £31m hypersonic jet

Russia claims it has shot down two Ukrainian drones flying over the Moscow region, as Kyiv continues to step up its aerial assault on its eastern neighbour.

Ministry of Defence officials also said they intercepted another two UAVs over the Bryansk region, north-east of the Ukrainian border.

Officials were forced to close airspace over the capital city, leading to delayed and cancelled flights.

Moscow’s Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said on Tuesday morning that air defences shot down two drones to the west of the capital in the Krasnogorsk and Shastsy districts.

There are no reports of injuries as a result of the attacks, which appear to be happening with greater frequency.

On Monday, at least two people were injured when parts of a destroyed drone fell on a house in the Moscow region.

Moscow’s prestigious financial centre has also been targeted in recent weeks, with a number of buildings suffering extensive damage from UAV attacks.

The governor of Moscow’s region said on his Telegram channel: “Tonight, two drones were intercepted by air defence in the Moscow region: in Shastsy in the Odintsovo urban district and in Krasnogorsk, in the Pavshinsky floodplain.

“The focus of all operational services is on the second incident.

“A blast wave during the fall smashed windows in a high-rise building and damaged cars.

“There were no casualties among the residents, and there was no fire.”

President Zelensky has warned the Kremlin to expect more aerial assaults on its cities, saying it was a “natural” and “fair” process.

In a recent address to journalists, he said: “Ukraine is getting stronger.

“Gradually, the war is returning to the territory of Russia — to its symbolic centres and military bases, and this is an inevitable, natural, and absolutely fair process.”
