Pub has hilarious response for cheeky diner who left a one-star review

A witty and “hilarious” response from a pub in Coventry convinced an unhappy diner to change their bizarre one-star online review to a glowing five stars.

Staff at the pub, The Burnt Post in Styvechale, Coventry, were left baffled after receiving a negative review over the visible “lack of burnt post”.

The pub, which prides itself on serving “great quality food” in “warm and welcoming” surroundings, was visited by the disgruntled diner who was disappointed due to the fact there was no literal “burnt post” at the diner.

A spokesperson for The Burnt Post mockingly responded to the diner on Google reviews, listing a number of other pubs in the area which the reviewer could be disappointed by, following this trend.

They said: “We are sorry to hear we did not live up to your expectations, however being guest-focused we thought we would try and turn your experience around and maybe help you out, saving some time so other pubs do not disappoint.”

With tongue-in-cheek humour, the spokesperson said staff at the Open Arms are “unable to welcome you with ‘open arms’ because of the busy summer period.”

They continued: “Green Man, We have yet to see any ‘Green Men’ there as of yet. Red Lion: No ‘Lions’ of any colour have been seen here.”

“Phoenix: No flames of sightings of a ‘Phoenix’ have been recorded. Aardvark: Ants are safe here.”

“Unicorn: My daughter lives in hope. The Bulls Head: Would be weird. Rainbow: Has been known but not every visit.”

CoventryLive reported The Burnt Post also more suitable options for the complainant including the pub ‘The Painted Lady’ which referenced having a barmaid working there with “great tattoos”.

The Burnt Post added: “We love receiving feedback good and bad. It is great for the team to get praise and for us to learn where we can improve. However, when we were given a one-star rating for there being ‘no burnt post’ on-site, we thought there was only one way to respond.”

Shortly after the eatery shared its response, the reviewer amended their one-star rating saying: “Although there is no burnt post, I have reviewed your response and it warrants an upgrade.”

Customers hailed the response from the company as an “absolute genius response” with others claiming the social media staff demanded a “pay rise” for being so witty.
