Protesters call for McDonald's boycott over 'Israel funding'

Protesters have taken to the streets of Bristol calling for a McDonald’s boycott due to its ‘Israel funding’.

The group of protestors gathered outside one of the city’s McDonald’s branches waving Palestinian flags and shouting “free Palestine” and “boycott McDonald’s”.

One female protestor who led the chanting, said “shame on McDonald’s” and “you’re killing innocent people” as a police officer was seen approaching.

A video of the protest was shared on X account ‘London & UK Street News’ yesterday with other users quick to pile in with their reactions.

One said: “McDonald’s needs a worldwide ban.”

And another said: “Do something meaningful with your time.

“Go send out food and medical supplies, these protests do nothing.”

“In all seriousness, what’s the Big Mac got to do with Isreal and Palestine?” added another.

The furore over McDonald’s follows after word got out that the multinational fast-food chain supplied free food to soldiers in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Newsweek is reported that McDonald’s began supplying Big Macs and French fries to the soldiers shortly after they began their attacks on Hamas.

Users on Twitter then quickly called for a mass boycott.

“McDonald’s providing free meals to the IDF, (the military forces of Israel).

“We should stand by our principles and take actions that align with our beliefs.

“Let’s boycott McDonald’s because Supporting companies that are involved in conflicts is wrong, especially when it comes to the loss of innocent lives,” wrote one X user.

The free food move comes from the Israeli franchisees, who made the announcement in an Instagram post that has since been deleted in response to the backlash.

“Update that already yesterday we donated 4,000 meals to hospitals and military units, we intend to donate thousands of meals every day to soldiers in the field and in drafting areas, and this is beyond a discount to soldiers coming to restaurants,” the caption read.

“We opened 5 restaurants that were open only for this purpose.”

Express.co.uk has approached McDonald’s and Avon and Somerset Police for a comment.
