Princess Mary of Denmark sparks frenzy as she rewears stunning red gown for seventh time

Princess Mary of Denmark has sparked a fan frenzy after opting to rewear a stunning red velvet gown for the seventh time.

The 51-year-old is set to take on her new role as Queen later this month after Queen Margrethe of Denmark announced her decision to abdicate on Sunday.

Attending Queen Margrethe II’s final New Year’s Gala on January 1, Princess Mary opted to rewear a stunning red velvet gown by Birgit Hallstein Couture – one that she last wore in 2020.

The gown is a fashion favourite for the Danish royal, as she’s worn it on seven occassions in total, debuting the grogeous dress in January 2007.

On this latest occasion, she paired the glamorous gown with the J.Furmani silver clutch and the Danish Ruby Parure Tiara.

The gown was showcased on @royalfashionpolice’s Instagram page, with fans quickly praising the royal for rewearing the gown.

One fan commented: “Queen of upcycling. Looks just as stylish as it did back in 2007.”

Another wrote: “Absolutely gorgeous, I love that she wore it so many times.”

A third fan wrote: “Love it [heart-eyed emoji] and the fact she’s worn it so many times is marvellous! Well done Mary!”

According to the account, the dress was made when she was pregnant with Princess Isabella, who was born in April 2007.

Princess Mary was clearly a huge fan of the dress and had the bodice redesigned to wear post-pregnancy.

As well as wearing the dress twice during her pregnancy in early 2007, Princess Mary wore it again in January 2012. The next time she was seen in the gown was in 2014, and again in 2015 and 2020.

Princess Mary of Denmark’s husband Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark is set to become King on January 14 after Queen Margrethe of Denmark’s shock abdication announcement on New Years Eve.

The sudden change of monarch, after 52 years, means that Princess Mary of Denmark will become Queen.

The pair met in Sydney in 2000 and tied the knot just three years later. The couple now share four children, including Princess Isabella.

Princess Mary, although of Scottish descent, was raised in Australia.
