Princess Leanor looks chic in white suit as she swears loyalty to crown on 18th birthday

Princess Leonor is marking her 18th birthday in style as she has officially become Spain’s future Queen.

The royal swore allegiance to the Spanish Constitution, a necessary ceremony for her to succeed to the crown and someday become queen.

Leonor wore a striking fitted white suit for the occassion, which took place at the House of Parliament in Madrid this morning.

The nationally televised ceremony in the lower house of Parliament is understood to symbolise the continuity of Spain’s parliamentary monarchy and the institution’s allegiance to the chamber.

The teenager used the same oath as her father King Felipe did when he — then prince — turned 18 in 1986, pledging “to faithfully carry out my duties, to keep and uphold the Constitution and the laws and respect the rights of citizens and the autonomous communities and loyalty to the king.”
