Princess Kate's 'unhappy' school years and how being 'bullied' helps shape her parenting

Princess Kate’s “unhappy” days at school have influenced how she parents her three young children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has revealed how Kate’s own experiences, as well as through her own interest in the early years, has shaped her three children’s days in school. Kate and William are known for wanting to give their children as normal of an upbringing as possible.

Bond told OK!: “”The Prince and Princess of Wales have made it clear that their young family will, as far as possible come first and that includes sending all three to day school, rather than having them as boarders away from home.

“Catherine had a very unhappy time at Downe House in her first two terms and was bullied quite badly before she left and moved to Marlborough College.”

She added: “This has completely influenced the way she wants her children to be educated, coupled with her belief and research into early years development.”

Bond then went onto discuss Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’s current school, Lambrook.

“Diana missed them hugely, but in the same breath, had been brought up in much of the same way away from her family.”

Princess Kate reportedly thrived at her second school, particularly after being bullied at Downe House School.

A friend at her newer school previously told the Daily Mail: “Apparently she had been bullied very badly and she certainly looked thin and pale. She had very little confidence.”

The Princess of Wales has previously been praised for opening up about her own experience of mum guilt.

In 2020, Kate appeared on Giivanna Fletcher’s ‘Happy Mum, Happy Baby’ podcast where the mother-of-three was asked if she has experienced the feeling of mum guilt.

She replied: “Yes, absolutely – and anyone who doesn’t as a mother is actually lying.”
