Princess Kate's uncle warned over 'dangerous move' as expert questions royal blessing

A Royal expert has issued a stern warning to Princess Kate’s uncle after rumours he has decided to enter ITV’s Celebrity Big Brother.

According to show insiders, Gary Goldsmith will be joining other celebs like Dragon’s Den entrepreneur Levi Roots and former This Morning host Fern Britton on the Channel 4 show’s revitalisation this year, leaving many shocked by the move.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told OK!: “I cannot imagine why Gary Goldsmith is doing this. Surely he can’t need the money? This is tacky, demeaning and tasteless. Not to mention dangerous.”

Ms Bond said that during her own experience in the Big Brother house, she learned how easy it can be to let secrets slip – warning that Mr Goldsmith needs to be careful not to do the same.

“In a cauldron like that it’s all too easy to forget there are cameras rolling,” she said. “You will be tired – maybe a bit tipsy – and other people can drag stuff out of you that you really didn’t mean to say publicly.”

She added it was a “dreadful idea” and she “can’t imagine that it has the blessing of anyone in the Middleton family, or the Royal Family.”

Ms Bond said that while the Waleses could rest easy that he will be “totally pro-them” and has gone “on record for heavily criticising Harry and Meghan”, they would rather “maintain their dignified silence about all that has happened. It has been a highly successful strategy.”

Prince William and Kate may now have to contend with the possibility of Mr Goldsmith – who Ms Bond describes as a “slightly risqué character” becoming seen as their “spokesman” while on the Channel 4 show.

Mr Goldsmith has previously chosen to speak out in support of Prince William and Princess Kate when the constraints of the Royal Family may have stopped them from doing so themselves.

Following the release of the sixth and final series of Netflix’s The Crown, Gary appeared on the Daily Mail’s The Crown: Fact or Fiction podcast to defend his sister, who was portrayed as though she was scheming to set Kate up with William. He said of his neice “First and foremost, Kate did brilliantly well to get into St. Andrews. She’s an amazing, an amazing, an amazing girl, but that wasn’t noted.”
