Princess Kate’s sweet bond with King Charles shown with telling gesture

Princess Kate made a subtle tribute to King Charles and his relationship with his grandmother.

The Princess of Wales wore the Strathmore Rose tiara at the Buckingham Palace banquet for the South Korean state visit.

It was the first time the tiara had been seen for nearly a century, last being worn by the Queen Mother in the 1930s.

The Queen Mother got the all-diamond Strathmore Rose tiara as a wedding gift from her father, the Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne.

The statement showed the special connection to the King’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, wife of King George VI.

Lauren Kiehna, from the Court Jeweller, told People magazine: “Kate has always signalled that she’d like to emulate the Queen Mother’s royal role and wearing her jewels is an important symbol of that continuity.

“It’s fitting that Kate — likely with some assistance from King Charles — would choose to wear the tiara exactly a hundred years after the Queen Mother originally received it.”

Although the antique piece of jewellery was once considered unfashioable due to the sheer amount of jewels in it, experts now day that these types of pieces are being brought back into fashion.

Author of The Queen: 70 Years of Majestic Style, Bethan Holt, said the tiara felt like a “lost treasure”.

She added: “I think it’s lovely as the King was so close to the Queen Mother and knowing that one of her most precious pieces of jewelry is being worn by his daughter-in-law gives a really emotional tie between the generations.

“It has been said that Kate has looked for inspiration to the Queen Mother in terms of how she conducted herself and so to have that tiara symbolizing that, in such a public moment, I think it is really significant. I think if there was anyone to wear that tiara, it was Kate; she was the woman to wear it and carry it forward.”
