Princess Kate's engagement style missed the mark compared to Meghan Markle

Princess Kate got some of her autumn proposal style right, opting for a neutral manicure.

But her choice of outfit was said to be too dark for the season she got engaged in, according to a beauty expert and research from brand Fresha London.

Analysing trends and the hashtags #proposal and #engagement on Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest on highly-liked posts, Fresha found a fifth of fiancées were a fan of nude nails.

While white came out as the second most popular colour choice in 11 percent of posts and just behind with 10 percent was the French manicure.

The research suggests while Princess Kate got it right with her nails, she should have gone for a more neutral tone dress and lighter eye makeup.

In comparison, Meghan Markle wore a white coat and tan-coloured sandals for her engagement announcement, which was said to be the ideal for the autumnal period.

Moreover, Prince Harry and Meghan’s star signs also made the time of year they got engaged just right for the couple.

A spokesperson for Fresha London said: “One easy mistake that a lot of people make – especially if they’re completely surprised by a proposal – is to overdo their makeup, especially at this time of year.

“This may be because they’re overcompensating for the dull weather or struggling to see their makeup in full detail due to waning natural light.”

They went on to add: “The perfect proposal manicure should be minimalist in design and preferably feature just one nude base colour, as this will avoid distracting attention from the main event – your new ring!”
