Princess Kate unable to mark major milestone today as she starts long recovery at Windsor

At the time Kate opened up about her passion project and said it had become her “life work” after more than a decade of championing the issue.

Kate’s vision is to highlight and promote how what happens in a child’s first five years often shows how happy, healthy and confident they will be throughout adulthood.

She said at the time: “The campaign is fundamentally about shining a spotlight on the critical importance of early childhood and how it shapes the adults we become.”

Now a royal expert praised the royal’s work and the impact her campaign has in in just a year.

Jennie Bond told OK!: “I find it quite surprising that it’s only a year since she launched Shaping Us – an indication of the impact she has already made. I think the idea has gained great traction already, which is largely down to her relentless campaigning.”

She added: “I really admire the way she has brought such a sharp focus to the importance of these early years. They are tough years for most parents…with toddler tantrums and sleepless nights.

“Understanding that they are also the most crucial years can, I think, help parents become more patient, more forgiving and more nurturing of their little monsters who are finding life a bit confusing and frustrating as they struggle to make sense of the world.”

The royal expert even compared Shaping us on the same level as King Charles’s The Prince’s Trust [now King’s Trust] and Prince William’s Earthshot Prize.

She explained: “I think this does indeed rank with Earthshot and The King’s Trust. And the progress can be quantified… The ‘Shaping Us’ campaign has already released data showing that only around one in three (36%) adults report knowing ‘a little or nothing’ about how children develop in their early childhood.

“New surveys in coming years should undoubtedly show an improvement on those figures… with the publicity the Princess can bring to it, which will be a solid achievement.”

The Princess of Wales will also be missing any big celebrations or parties today for her mother, Carole Middleton’s 69th birthday.
