Kate, Princess of Wales is no stranger to a bold co-ord, in fact, the royal has been seen wearing them in various styles on many occasions.
Tailored slim trousers and a smart double-breasted blazer tend to be her go-to look when sporting a tonal two-piece, but more recently, she has experimented with skirts and jackets.
While there’s no doubt that the 41-year-old has a host of experienced stylists on hand to help her, Kate’s clever fashion techniques are based on a simple formula.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Raymond Lam, a style expert from Vendula London claimed that copying the Princess of Wales’s make-shift co-ords is easily done with one simple “ingredient”.
He said: “Co-ords are a great wardrobe staple, as they provide an easy way to make a full outfit.
“However, it is possible to make your own ‘co-ord’ look with separate pieces of clothing like Princess Kate, and it is not actually as difficult as you may think.”
One of the Princess’s most notable looks as of late debuted at Wimbledon. The royal took her seat in the centre court-side box wearing a mint green and white ensemble.
The mother-of-three looked chic wearing a white pleated dress which she teamed with a new £1,950 Balmain blazer.
While the style was in keeping with Kate’s enviable wardrobe, the contrast between the top and skirt made it stand out more so than usual.
Raymond explained: “Princess Kate’s recent mint and white outfit that she wore to Wimbledon on the July 4 had the illusion of a co-ord, even though it was two separate pieces from different designers.
“She achieved the ‘co-ord’ look through her use of matching tones, as the white collar on her blazer was the same shade of white as her dress.
“Additionally, the neckline of the dress was hidden by her blazer, which made it appear as a complete dress and would not have worked if the neckline of the dress was higher or visible under the blazer.”
He continued: “For people who want to achieve a similar look themselves, you should ensure that one piece of your ‘co-ord’ has an element of boldness, such as a pattern, colour or detail. For example, Princess Kate’s element of boldness was her mint green blazer.”
While the royal seemingly debuted the style hack at Wimbledon, it’s something she has tried many times in the past. In the colder months, Kate was pictured pairing statement jackets with tonal tops to create seamless outfits in different shades.
However, the shift in her wardrobe as of late has seen the Princess of Wales turn to dresses that look like matching jackets and skirts, and self-made co-ords fashioned from separate garments.
This is a step further from her phase of wearing flowing, summery one-piece styles earlier in the season.
