Princess Kate and Prince William setting example of 'good parenting' over Earthshot

Princess Kate and Prince William are making the right choice when it comes to the upcoming Earthshot Awards in Singapore, an expert has said, as William will travel there alone while Kate remains at home with their family.

Initially royal sources seemed concerned after the Wales schedule was confirmed, particularly as the Princess has rarely ventured overseas this year.

However it has been revealed that Kate is staying home to support Prince George as he faces important school exams, while William will stick to his environmental commitments.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk that this decision will ultimately be viewed positively, as Kate and William are putting their children first.

He said: “William and Catherine attended the last two Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremonies in London and Boston together. It’s understood she wants to be with George because of his exams and it will be appreciated that the Waleses want to set an example of good parenting, that will be totally understood.

“The Prize is a remarkable achievement. William, whose ratings are extremely high both here and in the United States, will be there and hopefully they will be together at next year’s Ceremony.”

The Prince of Wales has made his commitment to fighting climate change clear through his Earthshot Awards, which sees five winners each year given a grant of £1 million to help expand their schemes to help protect the planet.

His wife would usually accompany him to such a significant event, however as always their young family must come first, particularly as it has been speculated that George is sitting Eton entrance exams.

Although Kensington Palace have not officially disclosed which exams George will be sitting, the preliminary entrance exams for Eton College, known as ISEBs, are also held that first week in November, with other private schools using them to select future students.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond explained that William will be “kicking himself” over the schedule clash, but is always understanding and supportive of Kate and her choices.

She told OK! magazine: “I cheered out loud when I learned that Catherine had chosen to stay home with George. It’s absolutely the right decision.

“Official duties will come and go; children need their parents, and they grow up fast. There will be more Earthshot events and prizes. But this year, George has his own big event going on – exams.

“It is entirely right that his mum should be there to help him through them. I expect William is kicking himself that his schedule clashes with George’s exams, but he will be wholly supportive of Catherine staying home to help their son.”

George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are all currently pupils at Lambrook School, but it has been rumoured that George will follow in his father’s footsteps and attend Eton, after he joined Kate and William for a tour around the school earlier this year.
