Princess Diana fans call out glaring error in pictures of her with Prince Charles

Princess Diana and then-Prince Charles were once one of the most photographed couples in the world, however in many pictures of them together there is one glaring error which has been called out online.

In almost every photo Charles is shown to be several inches taller than his wife, even though they were in fact the same height.

Both Charles and Diana measured at exactly 1.78m, which is just under 5 foot 9 inches, making her very tall for a woman while he is just under average height for a man.

Techniques used to make the now-King seem taller included him standing on a step, as he did in their engagement photos, or having Diana lean forward.

Interestingly in photos taken of them out and about it is clear they are the same height, while in official snaps released by the Royal Family he is made to seem taller.

Last year the issue was once again brought to light after a royal fan discovered an old stamp featuring the couple, who were married in 1981 but separated in 1992 and eventually divorced in 1996.

For their wedding in July 1981, Diana carefully selected her bridal shoes so that she would not be taller than her husband as they read their vows.

The shoes, which were made of satin and lace and covered with over 500 sequins and 100 pearls, were practically flat, and had the letters C and D painted on the soles.

Royal fans discovered the false height discrepancy after watching The Crown, which depicts the royal relationship over the years and how it fell apart.

One wrote on Twitter: “What I only found out a few days ago and really bugs me is that even though Princess Diana and Prince Charles were the same height, in almost every official photo, he is shown taller than her, or there’s an attempt to do so.”

Another added: “Charles and Diana were the same height. Why is it so important the man is taller than the woman, that society has to make this Fake News up?”

The sixth and final series of The Crown is set to air next month, and will feature the death of Diana in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

However, the show has been slammed as being “tacky” for including a scene in which Diana’s ghost will appear to comfort Queen Elizabeth and her ex-husband Charles.

Royal commentator Richard Fiztwilliams told Express.co.uk: “It was never tasteful to bring The Crown so close to the present day, especially as this meant covering the period of Diana’s death and the public reaction to it.

“It was always going to be extremely controversial and very hurtful to those close to her, especially Princes William and Harry.”
