Princess Charlotte does not use her royal title at school but instead goes by a far more normal name to help her blend in amongst her fellow pupils.
Charlotte and her brothers Prince George and Prince Louis currently attend Lambrook School in Berkshire, where they enrolled last September, close to their home Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.
It is traditional for members of the Royal Family not to have a surname, as they are generally known in the public eye by their first name and royal title.
However George, Charlotte and Louis are known at school as George Wales, Charlotte Wales and Louis Wales, in a nod to their parents’ titles the Prince and Princess of Wales.
It was a similar story at George and Charlotte’s old school, Thomas’ Battersea Prep School, where they were called George and Charlotte Cambridge to reflect the title their parents were then known by, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

When Princes William and Harry were at school they used the same tactic, being known as William and Harry Wales to their peers.
However there is another nickname that Charlotte might be known by, as her mum Kate let slip during a royal outing to Northern Ireland in 2019.
On the visit Kate was chatting with fellow young mother Laura-Ann, who later posted on Instagram about their encounter and explained how the Princess had asked about her son Bertie.
She said: “She asked how old Bertie is, and I said he is four and she said, ‘Oh, he’s the same age as Lottie.’ She calls her Lottie!”
Therefore at school Charlotte’s friends may refer to her as Lottie Wales, or it could be a pet name she only lets her mother use.
When Prince Louis was born in April 2018 he was only given an HRH title due to the intervention of the late Queen, as a rule set in place by King George V in 1917 meant only certain royals were granted titles.
He stated then that only children of a sovereign would automatically get a title, as well as grandchildren born through the male line, but not great-grandchildren as Louis and his siblings were.
However Queen Elizabeth changed the precedent in 2013 ahead of the birth of Louis’s oldest sibling Prince George, meaning all the Wales children are titled.
