Princess Beatrice looks unrecognisable in eccentric Victorian dress with sweet backstory

Princess Beatrice of York has pursued a successful career as the King’s niece, despite not being a working royal.

She briefly dabbled in acting in 2007 when she took on a role in a film that her mother, Sarah Ferguson, co-produced.

Beatrice made her acting debut in The Young Victoria as an extra, which some fans might not be aware of. Pictures of the Princess dressed in Victorian attire from the film recently resurfaced.

The daughter of Prince Andrew played one of Queen Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting in a memorable sequence in the 2009 film, which starred Emily Blunt as the late monarch.

The Young Victoria detailed Queen Victoria’s early years and featured the crucial Coronation scene.

Princess Beatrice was shown enthusiastically enjoying her part as an extra in The Young Victoria while sporting an exquisite Victorian costume.

The Princess’s silvery gown had a long skirt, fitted corset bodice, and puff sleeves in addition to bright pink floral embellishments.

Despite being historically accurate, the vivid blossoms and low neckline gave the period outfit a springtime feel. The same flowers were also featured on Beatrice’s circlet covered in feathers.

The film was co-produced by Sarah, Duchess of York, the mother of the Princess, who is well-known for her love of royal history.

In the past, royal fans have even noticed a striking likeness between Princess Beatrice and Queen Victoria, saying that the late monarch looks just like Beatrice.

Fergie named both her daughters after royal women in the Victorian era. Princess Beatrice herself is named after Queen Victoria’s youngest daughter.

In addition, Princess Eugenie’s name pays homage to Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, the granddaughter of Queen Victoria and the daughter of Princess Beatrice of the United Kingdom.

Eugenie’s middle names Victoria and Helena also have Victorian ties. Victoria, of course, honours the sovereign herself.

Her second middle name references Princess Helena of the United Kingdom, Victoria’s third daughter.

Queen Victoria had nine children with Prince Albert, so there were plenty of monikers for the Duke and Duchess of York to choose from.

Princess Eugenie carried on this trend when her first son, August, was born in 2021. The name August was one of the names of Prince Albert. He was christened Franz Albert August Karl Emanuel.

The Princess’s second son Ernest’s name has no Victorian link. However, Ernest was the middle name of King George V, who would have been his great great great grandfather.
