Princess Anne’s top team are understood to be reviewing her security arrangements following recent events concerning escaped terror suspect Daniel Khalife.

He was recaptured on Saturday but his privileged position inside the jail – having access to knives while working in the kitchen – has raised alarm bells among courtiers, the Daily Mail reports.

The Princess Royal frequently visits prisons and young offenders institutes as part of being patron of the Butler Trust – a charity set up to celebrate, support and share good practice in UK correctional settings.

In July she visited Cardiff, and other the past two years she’s paid visits to Wormwood Scrubs, Pentonville, Featherstone and Holme House.

Ball tried to make Anne get out of the car, to which she famously responded: “Not bloody likely”.

Before the situation escalated, a passing boxer, Ronnie Russell, punched Ball in the head.

Russell and Beaton received honours for their bravery, receiving the George Cross.

Following the incident, royals were assigned more than one protection officer.

Khalife appeared in court on Monday accused of using bedsheets to strap himself under a food truck to escape from Wandsworth prison.

He was charged with escaping from lawful custody on 6 September, having been arrested in a London suburb following 75 hours on the run.

At the time of the alleged offence, Khalife – a former member of the Royal Signals who was based at Beacon Barracks in Stafford – was on remand awaiting trial.
