Princess Anne switched hotel rooms to save £40 and the reason is quite sensible

At the time of the room switch-up, a spokesman for the hotel said: “She did not want a sea view because she would be arriving at night and leaving early,” which was originally reported by The Daily Mail.

According to the original report, it was assumed Anne would “want the best suite in the house,” but the hotel staff stood corrected and were happy to oblige the request.

Anne was travelling with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, and were on holiday. They were accompanied by two Scotland Yard bodyguards.

A spokesman for the hotel said: “She and her husband stayed one night and had dinner. She was very interested in the hotel and its history. It was a private visit and had been booked in advance. She did not sign the visitors’ book but seemed to enjoy her stay.”

Buckingham Palace released a statement, which read: “It was an entirely private visit. She had no official engagements that day.”

According to The Daily Mail, Anne paid for her room out of pocket versus relying on the taxpayers.
