Princess Anne sparks royal fan frenzy as she ‘keeps late Queen close’ with subtle choice

Royal fans are touched Princess Anne is keeping Queen Elizabeth II close to her heart in a sentimental tribute to the late monarch after she visited Nottingham for a royal engagement.

Looking sophisticated in a chic purple coat as the Princess Royal greeted well-wishers, fans were quick to note that the checked coat she was wearing was previously worn by her mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Spotting that Princess Anne was “wearing her mother’s jacket”, users on X were touched by the gesture.

User, @ab23adam said: “That’s beautiful to see. I have been hoping that the wonderful garments of the Queen would be passed on and enjoyed, no better way than by Princess Anne, very endearing.”

Another user, @jencarsontaylor said: “Keeping her close when she needs her the most.”

The late Queen had previously worn the coat as she disembarked the Hebridean Princess after a cruise with the Royal Family in 2010.

The Princess Royal, 73, also paired the bright-coloured coat with a matching skirt and completed the look with black suede riding boots.

User @noneoftherest commented: “To have some items of your mother, gives you comfort and strength. It is a great jacket.”

Princess Anne visited Nottingham West Primary Care Network at Eastwood Primary Care Centre yesterday afternoon in her role as patron of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.

The Princess Royal left clutching a huge bouquet of flowers after her visit and she has been seen stepping up to public duties in recent days.

It was a poignant decision to keep Queen Elizabeth II close to the royal amid a difficult time for the family after King Charles’s cancer diagnosis.

The Princess Royal was among those close relatives told personally by King Charles of his diagnosis, which he has known about since early last week.

She is one of a number of senior members of the family, including Prince William and Queen Camilla who are expected to increase the number of engagements they take on.
