Princess Anne insists Firm in safe hands with King Charles at helm in rare interview

Princess Anne said her brother, Charles, will not change as he takes up the role of King in a brand new interview. The Princess Royal joked that Charles had been “practicing for a bit”, but that her brother taking the throne would cause a “shift” in how the rest of the family supported him.

Speaking to Canadian news outlet CBC News for a rare sit-down interview, Anne said Charles would stay “committed” to his public service.

She said this would “remain true” after shifting into the role of King.

Her comments come less than a week before the King is set to be crowned this Saturday, May 6.

King Charles spent longer as heir to the throne than anyone else in British history, spending more than 70 years in the role.

In an interview at St James’s Palace, Princess Anne said: “You know what you’re getting because he’s been practicing for a bit, and I don’t think he’ll change.

“You know, he is committed to his own level of service, and that will remain true.”

Discussing the future role of the rest of the family, the princess said the monarch was the “key” figure and that “we… see ourselves as there to support that role”.
