Prince William ‘showed Prince Harry how it’s done’ on successful US trip, says expert

Prince William’s trip to the United States was “hugely successful”, said one royal expert.

The future King “won over Americans” by focusing on making a difference and showcasing a sense of duty, said royal biographer Angela Levin.

Ms Levin explained: “William’s visit has been hugely successful, he has fared extremely well. He’s very kind and very accessible. He asks questions and doesn’t tell anyone what to do, or preach at them like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.”

The Prince of Wales is “comfortable in his own skin and cares” about the public, said Ms Levin.

The high-profile trip was largely focused on promoting the Earthshot Prize and unveiling the finalists, ahead of the award ceremony in Singapore in November.

Prince William kicked off his two-day tour in New York by visiting the Billion Oysters Project, which aims to restore reefs in the city’s harbour. He also made an emotional visit to a firehouse, right next to the World Trade centre.

Speaking to The Sun, Angela Levin remembers a time when Prince William first realised what it was going to be like as his role developed within the Firm.

She recalls: “When Prince William was first realising what it was going to be like to be King, he didn’t want to do it. He didn’t want to cut ribbons or stand there and smile and be the name of a charity. That’s not what he felt was important.”

She believes King Charles has been pivotal in his transition by “shaping” his own role as heir to the throne.

She added: “William’s father has given him the ability to be heir to the throne in a way that he wants to do it, which has allowed him to focus on helping people. With Catherine’s assistance, they have been able to pick out very important things and make a big change in people’s lives.”

Prince William has focused on climate change, plastic pollution, and homelessness as well as other causes that help him feel he is “making a difference”.

The Royal dedicated much of his time to visiting the emergency workers and first responders at the FDNY firehouse.

Prince William also paid his respects to the memorial wall, dedicated to the servicemen and women who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and then visited the Ten House Bravest Memorial.

Throughout his visit, the Prince was shaking hands and chatting to locals and tourists who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the Prince.

Ms Levin says it’s no surprise the royal has an army of fans as he is “incredibly down to earth” and “gives off a warmth that people feel when they talk to him”.

She says the fact William has experienced great hardship, with the breakdown of his parents’ marriage and losing his mother, and come through it all “without bitterness” has made him very understanding of people from all walks of life.
