Prince William receives major boost as Britons back his comments on Gaza war

Prince William has received some much needed support following the fallout from his comments calling for peace in Gaza in a unprecedented move for the Royal Family.

The Firm are generally expected to remain impartial and stay out of politics, however the Prince released his statement during a visit to the headquarters of the British Red Cross on Tuesday.

William spoke out saying “too many had been killed” in the conflict between Israel and Hamas and pleaded for the fighting to end “as soon as possible”.

According to data from YouGov, when asked the question ‘Do you think it is or is not appropriate for Prince William to comment om the present situation in the Middle East?’, the majority of British adults backed the heir to the throne.

On February 21 2024 7,965 adults responded to the survey, with 47 percent saying yes, 24 percent answering no and 29 percent saying they did not know.

He said: “In speaking out about ‘the terrible human cost of the conflict’ and ‘the desperate need for increased humanitarian support’ he is trying to use his position to help, with carefully balanced engagements in Britain, visiting those providing aid and a synagogue.

“There are those who feel a monarch should avoid contentious matters. What is important is that he should avoid talking positions which are party political. It is essential to raise awareness whilst avoiding compromising his position.

“In this he is following in his father’s footsteps, as Charles always saw the role of Prince of Wales as one where he could be active in helping, in the case of the Middle East, it was furthering understanding between religions.

“William is very much the diplomat, following his intervention in this crisis he will need diplomatic skills as the situation seems likely to worsen.”
