Prince William 'at rock bottom' with Prince Harry as 'reconciliation a long way off'

Prince William is still a “long way off” from mending the feud between him and Prince Harry, as the Duke of Sussex’s relationship with his older brother and father King Charles is “firmly rooted at rock bottom”, according to a source.

Ever since Harry and wife Meghan Markle stepped down as working royals and moved to the US they have become more and more estranged from the rest of the royals, with their Netflix documentary series and Harry’s memoir Spare adding further fuel to the fire.

This year the Duke has avoided seeing his family on most of his trips to the UK, apart from his fleeting appearance at the Coronation in May, and even then he did not speak to his closest family members.

Although some believe Charles should reach out to his son and attempt to fix the situation, others have said the King has more important issues that require his attention.

One source told the Daily Beast: “The Harry issue doesn’t have to be sorted out immediately but it will be sorted out eventually.

“Charles loves Harry but his priority is to fulfil his duty as King and not let his mother down. That means constitutional nconsiderations have to come first.”

Yet a former royal staffer added: “It’s not sustainable for the King, who is the national symbol of unity, to be on such bad terms with his son that they haven’t been pictured together in years. Ultimately Charles has not just a personal but also a strategic need to resolve the issue.”

While Harry still makes trips over to the UK for his court cases and charity events, Meghan has not set foot on British soil since she attended Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.

Reports have claimed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are divided over how much time to spend in Harry’s home country, as while she wants to move forward he still misses his past life, and wishes to be over here more often.

Accommodation in the UK remains a problem for the family, as they were asked to leave Frogmore Cottage, their British home, earlier this year.

A friend of the couple told The Sunday Times: “Not having anywhere isn’t overly helpful. There are friends and hotels, but I know they would like to have somewhere.

“Meghan seems to have decided that coming back more is not what she wants to do, but Harry would like to. Having a base in his home country, despite everything that has happened, is appealing.

“There is work to be done here in terms of the charities, and there would be opportunities in the future where he’ll want to be here a bit more.”

Speaking to OK! magazine, entertainment commentator Mark Boardman explained that Meghan is “frustrated” that Harry still wants to return to the UK.

He said: “Meghan is frustrated that Harry wants his old life back. Meghan loves Harry, but she wants to bring out the better side in him.”
