Prince William and Princess Kate's Anmer Hall is also home to unexpected resident

Prince William and Princess Kate’s official home may be at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, with their royal base at Kensington Palace, but when they can they love to escape to the Norfolk countryside.

Their home Anmer Hall, situated on the Sandringham estate, was a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth after their marriage in April 2011.

Even though the ten-bedroom mansion has undergone extensive renovations worth £1.5 million, an unexpected paranormal presence still roams its corridors.

Speaking on Hello!’s A Right Royal Podcast, paranormal historian Richard Felix revealed: “When the Prince and Princess of Wales moved into Anmer Hall, there was a ghost in there of a Catholic priest.

“He lived there and was hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason. Although he was executed in York, for some reason, he’s returned.”

He added: “They’ve actually heard his voice and they have seen the ghost of what they say is a priest, wandering around Anmer Hall.”

Apparently the couple were informed about the mysterious ghost when they moved in, with William commenting: “No old hall would be complete without a ghost, would it?”

Anmer Hall was built in the 18th century, but since the Waleses were given it the property has been refurbished to include a conservatory and re-routed driveway, with new interior designed by Ben Pentreath.

The family love to spend time in Norfolk when Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are on school holidays, with the rest of the royals coming to Sandringham for Christmas.

In a previous podcast episode of Time to Walk, William said of their Norfolk home: “We spend as much time as we can here, it’s very peaceful.”

Here the royals can live like normal people, undisturbed by the locals, with Kate regularly taking her children to do pottery painting at ceramics store and traditional sweet shop Mable’s Paint Pot.

An insider told HELLO!: “Kate is a regular at Mable’s Paint Pot, she always pops in with the children and nobody pays any attention. That’s why she likes it so much here, they consider Norfolk their real home and it’s because everybody treats them totally normally here and lets them get on with their lives.”

Another local said: “They’ve been spotted on a yacht just off Holkham Beach, it’s the perfect way for them to be able to enjoy the beach but be away from the crowds.

“Holkham is amazing – it’s the beach from Shakespeare in Love – huge white sand with sand dunes, and although it’s very popular it never feels busy, as it’s so big.”
