Prince William and Princess Kate 'very popular' in America for one key reason, says expert

Prince William and Kate Middleton are “very popular” in America because they “live in the current moment”, one royal author claims.

It comes after multiple polls indicated significant backing for the couple stateside.

According to Clive Irving, author of The Last Queen and royal columnist at The Daily Beast, William and Kate are the next best thing now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have stepped down as working royals.

He told Express US: “Americans would love to see the monarchy much more like Harry and Meghan than like King Charles and Queen Camilla.”

Irving continued: “So that leaves us with William and Kate. Like Harry and Meghan, they are also very popular in America.”

According to The Daily Beast columnist, both couples “have a similarity in the eyes of the American people”.

He explained: “They live in the current moment, as opposed to the rest of the family who seem to have lost the plot.”

Although he didn’t specify who he was referring to, Irving is not confident that Charles will win over Americans.

The royal author said: “I think there’s a great deal of feeling that William understands the mood and the reality on the ground [In America] far more than Charles ever will.”

Recent polling certainly suggests the Prince enjoys widespread support across the pond.

William’s New York visit to promote his climate-change project had the backing of almost half of America, polling done for Newsweek in September found.

Prince William was in the Big Apple to reveal this year’s Earthshot finalists.

Earthshot hands out £1million (around $1.24million) to five projects each year that provide innovative solutions to the climate emergency.

Redfield & Wilton, on behalf of Newsweek, asked 1,500 US adults on September 17 whether they supported or opposed William speaking on environmental and climate issues while he is in the US.

And 47 percent supported the move, compared to 13 percent who opposed it, across the country as a whole.

On the East Coast, there was even more backing for the prince, with 58 percent supporting the move and 10 percent in opposition.

Support for the future king was highest among those who voted for Joe Biden in 2020 (60 percent) and lower among those who voted for Donald Trump (37 percent).
