Prince William and Princess Kate 'choose children over the monarchy' in controversial move

The Prince and Princess of Wales have decided that their three children must come first despite mounting pressure to take a more active role in the monarchy.

This news comes following media headlines that the pair have “turned [their] backs on Australia” amid feelings that the country has been abandoned as part of the Royal Family’s upcoming two-year tour of the Commonwealth.

Sources have suggested that King Charles has even pressured them to take on more royal duties, with the couple highlighting that the children will remain their main focus, especially as they “are so young”.

One source said: “William and Kate have been put in a very difficult position of choosing between the right path for their family or the future of the monarchy.

“Both are very important to them, but they have decided to put their children first while they are so young.”

The pair has three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, five-year-old Prince Louis.

George, who is second in line to the throne, is currently a student at Lambrook School and is expected to continue his studies at Eton College once he turns 13.

Speaking to OK!, the source added: “Kate is adamant that she doesn’t want to uproot the children during the school year.

“She feels it important that they are grounded and have their parents with them.”

It was recently confirmed that Kate will remain at home while Prince William travels to Singapore for the 2023 Earthshot Prize next month.

Buckingham Palace confirmed this news after speculation over whether she will join William, just like she has previous years.

Sources added that the mother-of-three would remain in Windsor with George, Charlotte and Louis.

Speaking on the couple’s recent decision, the source continued: “Kate’s childhood was rather chaotic with several moves to the Middle East and around England and so was William’s when he toured with his parents or was sent away to boarding school.”

They added: “Both of them don’t want that for their children until they are old enough to cope with it.”

Kate was also notably absent from William’s recent trip to New York City where he attend the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on September 19.

The couple’s ‘move’ is a stark difference from previous royals who decided that duty came first.

The late Queen famously left Charles, who at the time was not even one-year-old, at home with her parents when she travelled to Malta in 1949.
