Prince William and Kate slash cost of Duchy of Cornwall holiday lets to boost bookings

It seems even William and Kate are not immune to the cost-of-living crisis and have become the Prince and Princess of Sales.

The royal couple have drastically reduced the prices for their Duchy of Cornwall holiday lets to boost bookings.

Special deals are being offered on their farmhouses, converted barns, cottages and manor houses.

The Duchy is offering a 20 percent discount until the end of September across a selection of its 28 holiday lets.

Seven nights at Bowlan, a two-storey barn conversion in Loskeyle, which sleeps four, has a saving of £245.

It costs £980 at the beginning of September – working out at £35 per person per night.

The secluded property on the outskirts of Bodmin Moor is set within Cornwall’s unspoilt natural beauty, surrounded on all sides by fields and farmland.

Up to two dogs are welcome with plenty of space for them to run around. There is even a children’s play area.

Just a mile from the pretty town of Lostwithiel, known as the antique capital of Cornwall, a stay over the same period at Staniforth – another barn conversion in Restormel, sleeping four people – costs the same.

By comparison, during the same period, a family room at Bodmin Roche Travelodge costs from £685.93. And prices start at £544.93 for a stay at the budget hotel chain’s St Austell site.

For larger parties Restormel Manor is one of the Duchy’s most historic and cherished houses.

Set in beautiful parkland close to the River Fowey, it sleeps 18 and is available in the last week of August for £9,312. With a saving of £2,328, this equates to £73.90 per person per night.

For an idyllic getaway, the 400-year-old three-bed Restormel Cottage, overlooking the castle, can be yours in the second week of August for £2,396. That’s a saving of £599.

Guests can make full use of the extensive leisure facilities at Restormel Manor, which include an indoor heated swimming pool, steam room and sauna, tennis court, outdoor children’s play area and games room.

Situated in the “idyllic Fowey Valley, Restormel is a historic estate of rural beauty”.

The Eden Project and the coastal town of Fowey are just a short drive away. Other properties available include the Georgian Trewollack House, near Newquay, which sleeps eight.

It is available in the second week of August for £3,028 – £54 per person per night.

The Duchy pointed out this was not the first time it has had discounts on last-minute availability for its cottages.

It added that as is the case industry-wide, holiday homes and hotels reduce their prices for late summer breaks.

The Prince of Wales became the 25th Duke of Cornwall following the death of his grandmother, the Queen and his father’s accession.

During King Charles’s stewardship, the Duchy has converted its redundant farm buildings to alternative uses, including holiday cottages or workplaces, to encourage small businesses in the area.
