Prince William and Harry's relationship on the brink as 'no signs of bridge being built'

There is “no sign a bridge is being built” between Prince William and Prince Harry, a royal commentator has claimed.

This year kicked off with a bang for the Royal Family with Harry releasing his explosive memoir Spare in which he claimed his older brother physically attacked him.

The book has only added to the rift between the Duke of Sussex and the Prince of Wales, who Harry described as both his “arch-nemesis” and “beloved brother”.

One viewer of the Daily Express’s Royal Round-Up on Thursday asked: “Are they going to keep Harry at length or try to bring him back into the Monarchy?”

In response, royal correspondent Richard Palmer said royal watchers should not hold their breath, but he believes a reconciliation is not off the cards completely.

He said: “I think the current position is still that relations are very strained. There’s no real sign at the moment of any sort of bridge building going on there.

“But who knows how things will change — nations all have to come to peace sooner or later. Maybe there will be some sort of reconciliation at some point but no sign of it at the moment I’m afraid.”

There has been tension between the brothers for several years now. After the Duke and Duchess stepped back from the Firm and gave a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, in March 2021, William was reportedly “unable to come to terms” with the whole situation, still harbouring “feelings of anger”.

In their Netflix docu-series, released in December, it was claimed that William’s office briefed the press against the Duke and Duchess.

In his autobiography Spare, released at the beginning of this year, the Duke described a physical confrontation with his older brother in London in 2019.

Harry alleged that “Willy”, as he called him in the book, had insulted Meghan, calling her “difficult, rude and abrasive” before he “grabbed him by the collar, ripping his necklace, and … knocked him to the floor”.

The brothers were not seen interacting at the King’s recent Coronation in May with Harry swiftly returning to LA to attend his son’s birthday which fell on the same day.

William is due to be heading over to his brother’s side of the pond in September for the Earthshot Prize annual innovation summit.
