Prince Harry reportedly has some personal concerns over Meghan Markle’s potential return to acting, according to a royal expert.
Before she married Harry Meghan played paralegal Rachel Zane in the hit drama Suits, which even years after it finished is still one of Netflix’s biggest shows.
Its recent popularity has led to creator Aaron Korsch announcing plans for a Suits: LA spinoff, which will feature “a female lead who bears an uncanny resemblance to Meghan’s previous character Rachel Zane, which has been ‘tailor made’ for her.
Although the Duchess of Sussex has not confirmed or denied whether she will take up the role, royal historian Dr Tessa Dunlop claims that her husband will find it somewhat “challenging” to watch her onscreen, particularly the more intimate scenes.
In his memoir Spare the Duke admitted watching Meghan in Suits had been tough and it even put him off going to visit her on-set in Toronto.
He wrote: “I’d made the mistake of googling and watching some of her love scenes online. I’d witnessed her and a cast mate mauling each other in some sort of office or conference room… It would take electric shock therapy to get those images out of my head. I didn’t need to see such things live.”
Dr Dunlop told OK! magazine: “Harry, for understandable reasons, would be worried about Meghan going back into Suits and appearing in love scenes like she has before. He has admitted it was hard for him to watch before. He’s only human and wouldn’t want to have to watch her in intimate scenes with other men.”
The royal author added that one of the Duke’s main problems is that he does not have a clear career path of his own, having stepped down as a working royal in 2020.
She explained: “Harry’s not part of the acting fraternity. He won’t get it in the same way as he’s not from that background. Harry doesn’t belong to that world.
“The problem is if Meghan does return to Suits, what does Harry do? My worry for Harry is he doesn’t have a trade. His trade is being a prince. His two careers – being in the military and being in the Royal Family – are over.”
Meghan got her big break when she joined the cast of Suits in 2011 and played the main character Mike Ross’ love interest for seven seasons, leaving in 2017 when she and Harry got engaged.
