Prince Harry wants 'someone in his corner' at Coronation as Meghan 'not brave enough'

Prince Harry is likely to attend King Charles’s Coronation in May alone but is desperate to have Meghan Markle join him to have “someone in his corner”. The couple, who stepped down from official duties for a new life in the US, have yet to confirm whether they will attend the Coronation. Royal author Victoria Arbiter has claimed Harry will only attend the ceremony if Meghan comes.

She told the Australian morning show Sunrise: “Relations are so sour, I don’t think it would make any difference if Harry was there or not.

“Harry would probably like to have her with him just to have someone in his corner, but the Coronation is not going to present an opportunity to build bridges and has the kind of conversations this family needs to have in order to move forwards and heal.

“It’s possible Harry will breeze in show up for the Coronation ceremony and breeze out much in the way he did at the Platinum Jubilee.

“He kind of went to key events but he and Meghan missed the concert at the palace and they were out of town and on a plane before the pageant had even finished.”

It comes as former royal butler Paul Burrell claimed Meghan is not “brave or strong enough” to return to the UK for the celebrations.

The 64-year-old told Closer Magazine: “I don’t think Meghan’s brave or strong enough to be there – she’d had to look in the eyes of a family she’s pushed under the bus.

“But I think Harry may come alone, and she’s probably told him she won’t be able to be by his side with him if he does attend.”

Ms Arbiter countered these claims and insisted Meghan is a “very strong woman”.

She said: “I think it’s an extraordinary claim. You only have to look at Meghan’s desire to take on the British press and even walk away from the institution of the monarchy to recognise that this is a very strong woman.

“The fact is she is a strong, independent woman and I do think she has shown immense bravery.”

Buckingham Palace staff have been told to plan for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to attend the King’s coronation, it has been reported.

Harry and Meghan are being factored into all arrangements including cars, seating in Westminster Abbey, and dining, the Daily Mail newspaper has said.

The couple, who have begun using the titles prince and princess for their children in an “alignment” with the Palace on the matter, have yet to confirm whether they will attend the historic ceremony on May 6.

It is understood there is no update from the Sussex camp as to whether they will be present for the crowning of Charles and the Queen Consort.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes previously said Harry and Meghan had received email correspondence from the King’s office about the event, but an immediate decision on their attendance would not yet be disclosed.
