Prince Harry thought 'maybe Granny intervened' after William turned down wedding plea

Prince Harry thought his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II may have “intervened” when Prince William turned down a key request before his wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018.

The Duke of Sussex said he wanted to meet the crowds the evening before his wedding, but claimed William was initially not keen on the idea.

Harry and Meghn celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on Friday after the couple tied the knot in a glittering ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

It was also the day five years ago that William stood side-by-side with his younger brother as he welcomed his bride Meghan down the aisle, with the rest of the Royal Family in attendance.

But tensions appeared to rise between Harry and William on the eve of the royal wedding, with the duke left “feeling sick” following an exchange with the now Prince of Wales.

Writing in his tell-all memoir Spare, Harry recalls having drinks with friends at Coworth Park Hotel, where he stayed the night before his wedding.

William had only recently become a dad for the third time, and Harry claimed he had been due to join the group but cancelled at the “last minute” citing “Kate and the kids”.

Harry wrote he reminded his older brother on the night before his wedding to Kate, Princess of Wales that the pair had dinner together before greeting waiting crowds outside.

The Duke of Sussex claims William then shot back: “Why are you even saying hello to the crowds, Harold?” To which Harry in response admitted in the book: “I felt sick about it.”

But William seemingly soon changed his mind and the two brothers went side-by-side to greet the crowds before the latest royal wedding.

Harry wrote in his book that he was left wondering “maybe Granny intervened”.

The Duke of Sussex also claims he pressed William about having dinner together and staying the night before his wedding to Meghan.

He claims the Duke partly relented and agreed to dinner, but wouldn’t be staying over, reportedly telling Harry: “Sorry, Harold. Can’t. Kids.”
