Prince Harry set for security boost at Coronation due to interest in 'the royal scandal'

Dr Jonathan Spangler, a royal expert and senior lecturer in history at Manchester Metropolitan University, told Express.co.uk that Harry’s appearance will likely mean an increase in security.

He said: “They definitely would [increase security].”

Dr Spangler then went on to discuss the high amount of interest surrounding the forthcoming Coronation – as well as the ongoing feud between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Royal Family.

He added that there are two “levels” of “paparazzi” that will be interested in capturing Harry at the event.

He said: “There’s one level of paparazzi who are interested in covering the royal occasion.

“[Then] there’s a next level of paparazzi who are interested in the story, you know, the scandal.”

Harry has been involved in a very public feud with the Royal Family for some time.

The 38-year-old has been very vocal about his former life as a senior royal, and recently upped the anti with his memoir and promotional interviews.

Prince Harry has also spoken out – via interviews, the Sussexes’s Netflix docuseries and in his memoir Spare – about some members of the Royal Family.

Those who have come under fire the most include the King, Prince William and the Queen Consort. He alleged that his brother physically assaulted him while claimed his stepmother Camilla was “dangerous”.

The Coronation arrangements come amid his ongoing dispute with the British Government over security concerns, having previously stated his fears numerous times.

The Duke also previously said it would be unsafe for him and his family to return to the UK, without police protection officers.

Last year, Harry failed to attend his late grandfather, Philip Philip’s memorial service.

The service was held almost one year after his death in April 2021. He said he didn’t attend over security concerns. Speaking on the day of the memorial, veteran royal photographer Arthur Edwards noted the reason as an “excuse”, adding that he should “be here”.
