Prince Harry’s attitude and attacks towards the monarchy greatly “upset” his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and put her in an “impossible position”, a royal biographer has claimed.
Ingrid Seward’s book My Mother and I takes a look at the bond between King Charles and Queen Elizabeth, however, there are several segments involving the now-monarch’s son and his fallout with the royals.
In the book, Seward alleges that whilst grandmother and grandson had a very close relationship before Meghan Markle appeared, the late Queen “couldn’t condone” his attacks against the Firm and the British monarchy.
The book reads: “He had discovered a way of making himself the centre of attention and that was by dissing his family, about whom he felt increasingly bitter.
“While his fall-out with his brother was one thing, perhaps not uncommon amongst siblings, the anger aimed at the British monarchy, his father and stepmother, was totally unnecessary.”
Seward adds: “His anger eventually destroyed his credibility in other areas of his life, and his grandmother, the late Queen, found herself in an impossible position.
“However much she loved Harry – and she did – she couldn’t condone the way he was speaking about the institution of the monarchy that she had spent 70 years preserving.”
The book claims that Lady Elizabeth Anson – a cousin and intimate friend of the late Queen – confirmed that Harry’s attitude had “upset his grandmother”.
Elsewhere, the book alleges that according to Lady Anson, Elizabeth thought the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were “too in love”.
It also states that Elizabeth’s husband, the late Prince Philip nicknamed Meghan “DoW” because she reminded him so much of Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor.
Wallis Simpson was the wife of Edward VIII who famously abdicated in 1936, forcing Elizabeth’s father, George VI, to succeed to the throne.
She was an American socialite and divorcee, which to Philip, was reminiscent of Meghan Markle’s own background, who was an actress and also a divorcee before she met Harry.
