Prince Harry has been accused of only “supporting himself” as Prince William steps in to help his father following his shock cancer diagnosis.
The Duke of Sussex returned to the UK for a brief 30-minute visit with King Charles after he was told about his father’s diagnosis “over the phone”.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Harry suggested he had more visits planned, and that a possible reunion was on the cards.
But a royal expert has dismissed this, claiming Harry “is supporting himself” and that reconcilation between him and Prince William is unlikely.
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, told Fabulous: The relationship between the two brothers has never been as good as everyone imagined. William looked after Harry when he was very young but as soon as he developed a personality, like many brothers they fought and Harry always got the blame.”
She added: “Harry himself said that after William returned from his gap year, he was a different person and they got along better than they ever had. The death of their mother brought them together in mutual grief and understanding of their tragic predicament. But their rivalry continued and it was Kate that brought them together again.”
Ingrid added that while William is looking after his father, 75, after he was diagnosed following a planned prostate operation, it appears that “Harry is supporting himself”.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have returned to the US after their visit to Canada, where Harry gave his first interview with Good Morning America since returning to the UK. During the interview, he insisted he “loves” his family and has more visits planned in the coming months.
But Ingrid said she sees “no reason” why William would start talking to Harry again after their relationship was left in tatters following a number of claims made in Spare.
She added: “Now they are not speaking and I see no reason for things to change.
“They will however always put on a public show of friendship, but I feel that is as far as it will go for the moment. Even their father’s illness has not brought them together. They deal with it in different ways. The lack of Harry’s public support for Catherine has not helped.
“I see no chance of a reunion. William is supporting his father and Harry is supporting himself.”
