Prince Harry humiliated as his memoir Spare ranks as least valuable book for resale

Prince Harry’s controversial autobiography Spare, first published in January 2023, is now one of the least valuable books based on its resale price, according to data provided by The Knowledge Academy.

The study examined how much books are being resold for as a percentage of their original retail price, with Spare ranking as one of the least valuable being sold used at just 34.77 percent of its original value.

This puts it at eighth in the list of least valuable resale books, with David Baldacci’s book Simply Lies sitting at number one on the list selling at only 21.56 percent of its original retail price.

In Spare the Duke of Sussex made several damaging allegations about his time in the Royal Family, including claims that members of the family leaked stories to the press and did not offer him sufficient mental health support while he coped with the death of his mother, Princess Diana.

When Spare was first published it broke records as the bestselling non-fiction book for Penguin Random House on the first day of its release, shifting more than 1.43 million copies in all formats in the United States, Canada and Britain.

However it is not all bad news for Harry, as one of the books on the most valuable list has an interesting connection to him and wife Meghan Markle.

Carley Fortune’s novel Meet Me at the Lake, published in May 2023, is according to the data the third most valuable book at resale level, still selling for 80.78 percent of its original price.

Harry and Meghan are said to have bought the rights to the romance novel and plan to produce it as a series for Netflix, as part of their deal with the streaming platform.

The lives of the novel’s protagonists Fern and Will also bear an uncanny resemblance to Harry and Meghan’s own life and love story.

In the novel Fern and Will meet in Toronto, where Meghan lived for several years while she was filming Suits, a role she quit when her relationship with Harry became more serious.

Previously speaking of her time in Toronto, Meghan said: “The people are so kind, I love the food scene and I really love exploring little nooks around the city with my two dogs. I love how much green space is tucked away.”

Fern, a main character in the book, is also coping with the grief of losing her mother in a car accident, a struggle Harry can relate to all too well.

His mother Princess Diana perished tragically in a car accident in 1997, when she was just 36 and Harry was only 12.

Fern and her friend Whitney also have a difficult falling out, something Meghan reportedly experienced with her former close pal Jessica Mulroney.
