Prince Harry 'having a go as an American' by trying to ditch the 'Brit in royal exile' act

Prince Harry is attempting to personify the American dream and ditch his “Brit in royal exile” character in order to break free from his former life.

That’s according to Petronella Wyatt, the journalist and friend of Harry’s stepmother Queen Camilla, who believes this shift in his character could be a “new tactic” for him.

The author was speaking after Camilla’s husband, King Charles III, was officially recognised during the Scottish Coronation in Edinburgh.

She moved on to discuss Harry, who alongside his wife Meghan Markle, and their two young children, skipped the official event – despite it being one of his father’s most important occasions since becoming monarch.

The event came two months after he was officially crowned king on May 6 in Westminster Abbey, London – a spectacle the 38-year-old prince did attend.

But this latest snub comes as relations between Harry and Britain, and the monarchy, continue to hit new lows.

And for Ms Wyatt it is proof that Harry is now attempting to reinvent himself as an American.

She said on GB News: “I think he’s had no success as an Englishman and now he’s having a go as an American.”

The author added: “I think he’s now trying to personify the sort of American dream, and sort of cut it as kind of a humble guy as opposed to a Brit in royal exile… that isn’t working anymore. This may well be a new tactic for him.”

Harry famously quit his senior royal duties in 2020, opting to leave the UK with Meghan to begin a new “private” life away from the spotlight.

In the years since, the Sussexes have appeared on a number of high profile talk shows to discuss their lives inside Buckingham Palace, as well as create documentaries for Netflix, and podcasts for Spotify.

Harry also released his own memoir, Spare, which sparked condemnation from those inside the upper echelons of the Royal Family.

Of most frustration for royal courtiers was his apparent attacks on the likes of Camilla, Charles and his older brother Prince William.

The book appeared to pour cold water on any public appearance of a solid relationship between Harry and Camilla, who wed Charles seven years after the monarch’s ex-wife – and the Duke of Sussex’s mother – Princess Diana died in a Parisian car crash.

Ms Wyatt defended Camilla when the allegations in the book first emerged.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain following Spare’s publication, Ms Wyatt said: “I think Harry is a tremendous hypocrite because he’s a self-avowed feminist and yet he takes this very nasty potshot at a 75-year-old woman who can’t answer back.”

She added: “There was one example of a leak by one of her aides that was unintentional, and the aide was immediately sacked. But she has never ever briefed against her… she would never do that, she’s a very very kind person, she’s very sensitive where both the princes were concerned, and she’s completely without ambition.”
