King Charles will want Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to attend his 75th birthday celebrations in November but the Duke of Sussex risks being told to “get lost” if he keeps probing for an apology, an expert has warned.
Royal biographer Angela Levin said that the monarch will want his family around him, including his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet – meaning the Sussexes could be inclined to go.
She told the Sun: “Charles would want Harry and Meghan’s children there.
“If Harry and Meghan want to make an excuse, that’s their decision.”
But she warned: “If Harry wants to go to get an apology, then he can get lost.”
Prince Harry was said to be “furious” over his treatment during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and wanted an apology from the Royals.
The rift has shown no signs of healing after Harry lashed out at the royals in his memoir Spare and a bombshell interview with Oprah.
And the royal expert said the ball was ultimately in Harry’s court over what to do, adding: “Harry will have to decide. The door is open.”
Levin said she believes Harry and Meghan will both get an invite to the celebrations as the monarch reaches his 75th birthday on November 14, but not every member of their family may go.
She said: “He could go on his own and bring Archie with him. He’s a big boy now… and he could see his cousins.”
The full details of the King’s birthday celebrations are yet to be confirmed but it is thought it will be a low-key affair.
It is reported the King has decided against a public celebration and wants any events to be “minimal” and “family orientated”.
Levin added: “Charles is all about the public and not being extravagant. He really cares.
“There were parties after Harry and Meghan’s wedding but it wouldn’t be appropriate now.
“Times are hard and people are struggling.”
