Prince Harry and Meghan set to miss out on Met Gala invite in major snub for Susssexes

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could get “snubbed” at this year’s Met Gala event, which is due to take place five days before King Charles’s Coronation on May 6, predicts one celebrity PR. It’s quite possible that the young couple’s ongoing rift with the Royal Family has made them too hot to handle, Jordan James, CEO of Unlocked PR told Express.co.uk. He explained: “Looking ahead to next year’s Met Gala – which is arguably Hollywood’s most prestigious red-carpet event – it currently remains unclear whether Prince Harry and Meghan will receive an invite or not.

“It certainly wouldn’t come as a major surprise if they were snubbed given their current status within the Royal Family and the ensuing drama.”

However, as James points out, it currently remains to be seen whether the Sussexes will show up at this year’s Met Gala, and many believe the couple will be keen to attend given the event’s prestige.

The annual celebration of fashion, organised and presided over by Vogue’s Anna Wintour, regularly attracts the likes of Beyoncé and Lady Gaga to Madonna and Rihanna.

“Attending these occasions can help boost their [Meghan and Harry] public perception in America,” noted James.

However, the PR expert predicts the Sussexes will not want to attract that level of attention so near to the Coronation.

“I believe that even if the couple does receive an invite, they aren’t likely to attend as they will undoubtedly face scrutiny, no matter how hard they may try to minimise fallout – especially with how close this event is to the Royal Coronation,” he said.

Furthermore, Harry and Meghan’s absence from a string of glitzy events over the last few months suggests a shift in strategy, James said.

The PR explained: “While the couple isn’t always known for laying low, I think we are beginning to see a shift in how they want to be presented – whether this is truly by choice though we may never know.”

Harry and Meghan’s recent media adventures have divided audiences on both sides of the pond.

The couple released a six-part Netflix series in December that explored the breakdown of their relationship with the royals.

This was followed up by the release of Harry’s tell-all memoir, Spare, which made a number of bombshell claims about other members of the family, including a physical altercation the Duke had with his brother, Prince William.

Harry accompanied the release of his book with a number of interviews that further added fuel to the fire.

A series of polls conducted in the wake of Spare suggest the decision to release the tell-all memoir has dented the couple’s popularity on both sides of the Atlantic.

Since December last year, Harry has sunk 48 points and Meghan 40 points in a poll of 2,000 eligible US voters.

The research, conducted by Redfield & Wilton on 19 February, showed that Harry was disliked by 42 percent of Americans, compared to 32 percent who said they liked him.

Meghan was found to be even less popular than her husband, with just 27 percent of Americans saying they liked her, compared to 44 percent who said they didn’t – giving her a net approval rating of -17.

And in Britain the picture is equally as bleak, with the couple’s popularity sliding further into negative numbers following their recent exploits.

According to polling undertaken in Britain on March 1 by strategists Redfield & Wilton, Harry’s net approval rating has dropped 37 points since November to -22.

Meghan’s has also dropped 31 points leaving her with an approval rating of -33.
