Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still plugging Spotify deal despite being axed

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell website still lists their partnership with Spotify, even though the couple’s deal with the streaming giant fell through last summer.

Upon leaving the Royal Family in 2020 and moving to California the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a series of lucrative contracts in order to produce entertainment content, one of these being with Spotify.

Despite the £19 million deal it was announced last year that Archewell and Spotify had parted ways after producing one 12-episode series of Meghan’s podcast Archetypes.

The series saw the Duchess interview a series of celebrity guests including Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey and Serena Williams about the stereotypes that women face in their everyday life.

However it was later pulled, with a statement released at the time saying: “Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together.”

The Spotify deal is still listed on their Archewell Foundation website under the “Archewell Audio” section, even after the controversy surrounding them being dropped.

The website currently reads: “Archewell Audio is the newly formed, audio-first production company started by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“Archewell Audio will produce programming that uplifts and entertains audiences around the world. Under an exclusive partnership, Archewell Audio will join Spotify and their global reach—180 million Premium subscribers and 406 million monthly active users around the world—to spotlight diverse perspectives and voices.

“As part of the partnership, The Duke and Duchess through Archewell Audio produce podcasts and shows that build community through shared experiences, powerful narratives, and universal values.”

Not long after the news broke about the end of Harry and Meghan’s deal, Spotify executive Bill Simmons slammed them on his own podcast, labelling them as “f***ing grifters”.

He said: “The f***ing grifters. That’s the podcast we should have launched with them. I’ve got to get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It’s one of my best stories.”
