She added: “[Meghan and Harry are doing] is what most parents relate to.”
Meghan and Harry have two children – four-year-old Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, two – with the family-of-four currently residing in California.
Ms Nash said: “This is what they do best as public figues, [it’s to] draw attention to things as they did inside the Royal Family [and] as members of the Royal Family do.
“They can spotlight things that are issues in society and just draw attention to them and sometimes that can be really influential and you’ve got hope that someone is going to pay attention [to them].”
Addressing those in attendance, Meghan admitted that it was “impossible to not be in tears” following meetings with parents when they discussed their own experiences, including opening up about losses of their family members.
Dressed in an elegant cream suit jacket, the mother-of-two told attendees: “Thank you for being here with us. A year ago we met some of the families, not all of them.
“At that time it was impossible to not be in tears as I’m sure some of you have been today hearing those stories.”
She added: “You can hear those stories again and again and it’s still going to have the same emotional impact because it’s just that devastating.”
The Duchess also made reference to Archie and Lilibet, sharing her own fears for her children in the digital age.
She said: “As parents, our kids are really young in two-and-a-half and four-and-a-half, but social media is not going away and look, I think by design, there is an entry point that’s supposed to be positive and create a community and something has devolved and there’s no way to hear that and not try to help these families have their stories be heard.”
According to PEOPLE, the couple had been very hands-on in working with the parents who were involved in the event.
The families has been in contact with the Archewell Foundation as far back as a year prior to the event, with a source stating that “they are united in their mission to share personal experiences”.
