Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'need Netflix more than they realise' as deal nears end

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should be aware of the importance of hanging onto their contract with Netflix which is due to expire next year, according to an expert.

Since they signed their £80 million deal with the streaming giant, the couple have produced their explosive documentary series Harry & Meghan, as well as last year’s Heart of Invictus and Live to Lead.

However, while their revelations about the Royal Family were a commercial success they received criticism for their attacks on Harry’s family, and their other content failed to set Netflix alight.

It is not known if their contract will be renewed in 2025 but PR expert Ryan McCormick believes it would be in their best interest to hang onto it.

He told The Mirror: “The Prince and Duchess of Sussex need Netflix far more than they probably realize because the live streaming platform has such a large audience.

“Even people who aren’t into the royals would not have a problem easily finding them and potentially become fans of them.”

The streaming service 247.2million paid subscribers worldwide as of autumn 2023, with Mr McCormick pointing out: “This is a deal that they cannot afford to lose.

“I highly recommend they do everything possible to win the hearts and minds of Netflix executives because if they don’t, it’s going to be a PR disaster for them.”
