Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could have rectified glaring issue facing Royal Family now

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could have rectified one glaring issue that the Royal Family are currently facing, according to one royal expert.

Even though many may consider their decision in the best interest of the Royal Family, one expert has stated that if Harry and Meghan were to have stayed, they could have helped boost the Firm’s popularity among the younger generation.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the decision to step back as senior royals at the start of 2020, even opting to move out of the UK completely and set up home in America.

The couple now live in California with their two young children, with their new life totally different from the one they lived a few years ago.

According to former top Canadian royal correspondent Bonnie Brownlee, the Royal Family need to tackle the legacy of Empire across the Commonwealth and this is one thing that the Sussexes could have helped with.

Ms Brownlee told the latest episode of the Royal Beat: “Meghan could have been extremely helpful [to the Royal Family] especially in the Commonwealth… there are a lot of millennials around the world in the Commonwealth nations.

“I think Harry and Meghan would have been highly successful, and sometimes I think they didn’t realise how powerful they already were before they moved to Los Angeles.

“They could have brought a great deal of openness, fairness and change.”

Also speaking on the latest episode, royal historian and author of After Elizabeth: Can the Monarchy Save Itself? Dr Ed Owen claims that the Royal Family are currently facing a “youth problem” and it is something that they need to work on.

He said: “The King and the monarchy have something of a youth problem in that the popularity of monarchy is declining among the younger generations in the UK.

“He needs to kick start a conversation about what the monarchy is going to do over the next 10 or 20 years and how it reaches out to that younger generation.”

Speaking of those around the King, he added: “The King has at his fingertips all the expertise he needs to rebrand the monarchy for the middle of the 21st century, but I think he needs to look past some of those advisors currently at his ear, to a new cast of faces who could help reboot the institution.”

According to a poll conducted by GovUK in August, only 37 percent of 18-24-year-olds feel that Britain should continue to have a monarchy.

Back in September 2022, 47 percent of Brits in the same age bracket felt that Britain should continue to have a monarchy, clearly showing a dip in popularity.

The polling, which was conducted shortly after the late Queen’s death, shows a decrease since King Charles III ascended the throne.

A significant drop between October 2019 and March 2020 was also recorded.

In October 2019, 53 percent of 18-24-year-olds saw the monarchy in a positive light, compared to just 30 percent in March 2020 – which was around the time Meghan and Harry stepped down from royal duties.
