Prince Harry and Meghan Markle clambering to return to Royal Family for one reason

Conflicting reports suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have called King Charles on his birthday in what some royal watchers have seen as a potential olive branch amid a long-running split in the Royal Family.

However, another, hidden agenda has been suggested: the Sussexes are gunning for the King’s cash.

The estranged Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have made the call on the King’s 75th birthday during which Meghan showed the monarch a video of Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2, singing Happy Birthday to their grandfather.

But Daily Mail Diary editor Richard Eden claimed the call was actually a “desperate” attempt to get back into the royal fold, namely for the money that could follow any reconciliation.

He opined: “We’re talking about two privacy campaigners here when it comes to other people’s privacy, we get the details.”

Speaking Thursday on the Mail’s Palace Confidential, he added: “To me, it smacks of desperation, of Harry and Meghan wanting to get back into the royal fold.”

Mr Eden continued: “We don’t see videos of Meghan sending clips to her own father anymore – but when it comes to the king they do. They seem very keen to maintain their royal connection. It’s lucrative.”

He pointed to a report in the Telegraph – which claimed to have received a detailed summary of the supposed call – that said Prince Harry and King Charles were due for another chat next week.

Since Meghan and Harry stepped down from the Royal Family, the couple have signed multi-million-pound deals with Netflix and Spotify, the latter of which collapsed over the summer.

On Thursday, Meghan teased a return to Hollywood while on the red carpet at Variety’s Power of Women event in Los Angeles.

She said: “We have so many exciting things on the slate. I can’t wait until we can announce them, but I’m just really proud of what we’re creating.”
