Meghan Markle has been branded as “desperate” amid claims that she and Prince Harry may have paid for her to have a keynote speech at SXSW conference tonight.
The Duchess of Sussex is set to appear on a panel in Texas alongside actress Brooke Shields and author Katie Couric.
But the Daily Mails Diary Editor Richard Eden claimed the 43-year-old is “paying to hold this event”.
He told Palace Confidential: “She’s speaking at an hour-long talk about the representation of women in the media and in entertainment generally.
“I looked into it, it’s not quite what it seems. It’s their charity, the Archewell Foundation, has actually staged this event so presumably they’re paying to hold this event, they’ve organised it at the festival.
“She’s got other prominent figures who will be talking to Meghan such as the actress Brook Shields.
“It’s very much something she organised. It’s a strange situation, they’re using that charity to give her that platform and give her that profile.”
Royal editor Rebecca English added: “I don’t think it’s a strange thing to be sponsoring. I think it shows you she’s desperate to get out there and relaunch herself.”
