Prince George once shared a classroom with another royal who has TV comedy star mum

Prince George once attended school with a lesser-known royal relative, although his mum is a face that many more people are likely to recognise.

Before his family relocated to Adelaide Cottage, and George and his siblings enrolled at Lambrook School, he attended Thomas’s independent school in Battersea, alongside Maud Windsor.

Maud’s father is Lord Frederick Windsor, or Freddie as he is better known, and her mother is actress Sophie Winkleman, best known for playing Big Suze in the Channel 4 comedy Peep Show.

Lord Freddie is the son of Prince Michael of Kent, the late Queen Elizabeth’s cousin, making Maud and George distant cousins.

Maud was born in August 2013, just a month after George, and both children started at Thomas’s on the same day in September 2017.

Sophie is also the half-sister of TV presenter Claudia Winkleman, and married Lord Freddie in 2009 at the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court, south-west London.

They have since had a second daughter, Isabella, who was born in London in January 2016, after the couple moved back to the UK following a stint in Los Angeles.

Lord Freddie is currently 53rd in line to the throne and the family are often pictured attending large royal events such as the Coronation.

Lord Freddie’s sister is Lady Gabriella, who married her husband Thomas Kingston in 2019 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, where both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank had married the year before.

Sophie and Lord Freddie’s daughter Maud served as a bridesmaid for Eugenie, suggesting all the royal cousins remain close for the most part.

It is thought the royals will all commemorate the one-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death next month, although no official ceremony will be held.
