Crown Princess Mary of Denmark looked every inch the royal she is whilst carrying out engagements despite the scandal that has been plaguing the Danish royal family over the alleged romance between her husband, Crown Prince Frederik, and Mexican celebrity Genoveva Casanova.
Denmark’s future Queen controlled her emotions during a visit to Copenhagen’s Centre for Danish Architecture along with Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia during the last day of their state visit.
But Danish royals have received a blow after pictures showed the heir to the throne with Casanova, 47, in Madrid last week as they attended a Pablo Picasso exhibition.
Casanova has denied the rumours of the alleged affair stating: “We are friends and the photos prove nothing.
“I want to make it very clear that I have no relationship with him, as some suggest.”
Casanova continued: “Except for those who want to distort the images and see something where there is nothing. We have common friends and I am not going to tell who my friends are.”
Spanish media reported the Danish heir spent the night at the socialite’s home.
The pair were photographed walking together in broad daylight in Madrid’s Retiro Park.
They enjoyed a long walk with a friendly attitude and without hiding from anyone.
Later, they both had dinner at El Corral de la Morería, a restaurant that houses the most famous flamenco tablao in the world, according to Lecturas magazine, which published the photos.
Hours before, publishing company Vanitatis made a succinct description of the snaps some gossip publications had access to.
In a conversation with the journalist for Vanitatis, the actress stated: “Do you think I was going to walk with him in a public place in Madrid if there was a relationship beyond friendship? The malicious comments that can be made hurt me deeply.”
In another similar conversation with journalist Daniel Carande for Diez Minutos, she was even more blunt: “There is no romantic relationship, of course, we have many friends in common.”
Before Casanova spoke, Hola magazine was the first publication that gave context to the images. The magazine explained that a series of coincidences had involved Genoveva with the Danish prince, who was in Spain as part of a private trip with university friends.
According to the magazine, Frederik planned to carry out a cultural plan in Madrid to enjoy the museums, gastronomy and music of the Spanish capital. A friend that the prince and Genoveva have in common was going to accompany him that day to visit the exhibition ‘Picasso, the sacred and the profane’ at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum.
However, the friend fell ill with Covid-19.
It was then that Casanova was asked to accompany the Danish heir to the art gallery. The former partner of the son of the Duchess of Alba is very passionate and knowledgeable about art, which is why she was for years director of Projects and Institutional Relations at the Casa de Alba Foundation.
