Prince Edward steps into new role as King Charles undergoes cancer treatment


Prince Edward is stepping up to the plate to carry increased royal responsibility with King Charles out on medical leave and Queen Camilla staying by his side.

Princess Anne is still “the hardest working royal” with nine engagements scheduled for this week – but Edward, Duke of Edinburgh is right behind with eight.

Edward, Charles and Anne’s youngest brother at 59, will next week visit a Boxing Club and ballet.

His royal duties will see him travel to Stafford, followed by Leatherhead and, finally, Leeds.

Edward will carry out all eight engagements, across three days: Tuesday, March 5, Wednesday, March 6 and Friday, March 8.

On Tuesday, March 5, he is scheduled to carry out three royal engagements. These include visiting The Right Stuff Amateur Boxing Club and Rising Brook Community Church and attending the 10th Anniversary of the Staffordshire Police Cadets at Staffordshire Police Headquarters.

On Wednesday, March 6, the Duke of Edinburgh has two royal engagements. He is set to visit Freewheelers Theatre at The Lighthouse, Parish Church Hall and Surrey Hills Community Radio, both in Leatherhead.

On Friday, March 8, both he and his wife, Sophie, The Duchess of Edinburgh, will carry out three royal engagements together. The royal couple will attend an Ability rehearsal at Northern Ballet Headquarters and a performance of Romeo and Juliet at Leeds Grand Theatre, both in Leeds. In addition to the ballet, Edward and Sophie are scheduled to attend the Community Sports Awards at Headingley Stadium. also in Leeds.

Princess Anne has nine royal engagements scheduled for this week with six taking place in London, including the International Women’s Day Luncheon on March 8 and the Global Fraud Summit Opening Reception on March 10.

According to the Royal Diary, Prince William doesn’t have anything scheduled for the next week.
