Prince Andrew faces losing access to his holiday home

Prince Andrew could be set to lose access to his holiday home – after already refusing to leave his home on the Windsor Castle grounds.

Traditionally the Duke of York has been known to enjoy a summer holiday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. But King Charles has reportedly decided to keep the venue open to the public for an extra fortnight this year.

It is thought the decision will bring in additional income. A Mirror source has however claimed 63-year-old Andrew is likely to have his summer holiday plans hit by the decision.

Balmoral will remain open to the public until August 16 this year. The King is expected to take his summer holiday at the Birkhall, his home on the estate, while the castle is open to tourists.

The longer opening season for tourists means the Prince Andrew might not get his rural getaway. The Daily Mail’s Richard Eden however says the move will “bring significant new revenue into the estate”.

He does however said it may “annoy” the Duke of York, who has enjoyed trips to Royal Deeside since he was a young boy.

It comes as King Charles has reportedly planned to kick the prince out of his Royal Lodge home in Windsor, Berkshire. Sources however say plans changed after Sarah Ferguson underwent breast cancer surgery.

Andrew’s battle to stay in the Lodge on the Windsor estate has been ongoing for months, with reports he had refused to leave amidst the King’s plans to slash his £250k income meaning he won’t be able to afford renovations.

The lease on Andrew’s home is due to last several more decades, but the building is believed to be in need of renovations. It has been reported the King has told him he will have to fund the work himself.
