Primary school chaos as 10 fire engines rush to blaze engulfing roof


A primary school in Manchester was engulfed in flames this morning as ten fire engines rushed to put out the blaze.

SS Simon & Jude CE Primary School, on Newport Road in Bolton, was seen buried in smoke this morning as firefighters attempted to put out the flames that started in the roof space in the school hall.

It is not yet clear what caused the fire.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:At 8.30am on Thursday 17 August, fire crews were called to reports of a fire at a school on Newport Road, Bolton.

“Ten fire engines from across Greater Manchester were quickly mobilised to the incident. The fire initially involved the roof space of the school hall. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using hose reels to extinguish the fire. Road closures remain in place.”

Footage seen by Express.co.uk shows firefighters on the roof attempting to put out the blaze.

Smoke is still seen coming from the rooftop, with the road closed to all vehicles while emergency services attend the incident.

Thankfully, it’s not thought any children were inside at the time of the fire with the summer holidays still in full swing.

However, it’s not yet known if any teachers or staff were inside at the time.
