Pretty incredibly popular city dubbed 'Europe's LA' that's hated by the locals

A European city beloved by Brits as a party destination has been slammed by locals with one calling it “woke” and their country’s answer to LA.

Amsterdam welcomes millions of tourists from around the world every year, with many from the UK going there to experience the famous cafes and canals.

But being such a magnet for visitors seemingly rubs some local Dutch people the wrong way with one person posting about the city on the popular forum site Quora under the topic “What is the worst European city you’ve ever visited?”.

The man, who says he is Dutch, writes that his country’s largest city is a “place apart”, adding “for the Dutch, it’s more or less our Los Angeles, where all the media comes from, with all the woke stuff” and the “rich and famous”.

During his scathing review, which has had more than 19,000 views online, the man writes: “I find it a disgusting, crime-ridden, smelly tourist trap.

“Frankly, it’s these tourists that mostly ruin downtown Amsterdam. Overly drunk British or Irish football teams, loud yelling Americans, especially these ‘Chug chug chug’ brats and their stupid drinking games.”

Continuing his unflattering assessment the poster adds “everything costs more than anywhere else in the country” except for the cannabis, which is legal in Amsterdam, which he notes is reasonably priced because of competition from other cafes.

Responding to the Netherlands native, several people seem to agree with the sentiments with one American replying: “Coming from the US and stopping in Amsterdam, I could not believe the amount of garbage around the train station.”

Another added: “It is like a Disneyland for adults. Sorry for the people who live there.”

However, a dissenting voice claims Amsterdam is as it is with venues geared towards tourists because “the Dutch made it this way”.

The poster, who claims to have lived in Amsterdam for more than four years, added: “You build it and they will come.”
