Premier League risk fan fury as 'Christmas Eve date lined up for Wolves vs Chelsea tie'

The Premier League and broadcasters face a huge backlash with reported plans to move Wolves’ scheduled home match against Chelsea to Christmas Eve. Top-flight English matches haven’t been played on Christmas Eve since 1995, but talks are ongoing to potentially change that this year.

According to the Express & Star, Wolves’ match against Chelsea is ‘being earmarked for that date’.

Christmas Eve this year falls on a Sunday, where trains are likely to be few and far between.

The game is currently scheduled to take place on December 23 at 3pm, but kick-off would be moved to 1pm if moved to the Sunday.

The purpose of the move would be solely for TV purposes, a decision which will further enrage football supporters.
